Muzaffarnagar. BJP councillor from Gandhi Colony, Amit Patpatia, has expressed deep displeasure over the partial cancellation and diversion of trains running between Muzaffarnagar and Punjab during the winter season.
He said that these repeated disruptions have caused serious inconvenience to passengers who travel daily for work, business, education and family-related needs. A large number of people commute from Muzaffarnagar to Punjab and from Punjab to Muzaffarnagar every day, and for them, this rail route is nothing less than a lifeline. However, winter-related short-terminations, diversions and long delays have severely affected their movement.
Patpatia stated that under normal circumstances, trains like the Golden Temple Mail and Chhattisgarh Express run smoothly on this route and are a major convenience for passengers. But as winter intensifies, the Railways often curtails or halts certain trains on the Ambala–Jalandhar section, leaving regular travelers stranded. Those most affected are people who travel to Punjab in the evening and return to Muzaffarnagar the next morning for work. Earlier, the route used to be smooth, but sudden cancellations now disrupt their daily schedule.
He further added that delays caused by security checks (raids) on some Punjab-bound trains also create trouble for passengers. As a result, people neither reach their destinations on time nor receive reliable service during travel.
Amit Patpatia has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw not to cancel trains unnecessarily during winter and to introduce 1–2 additional trains on the Muzaffarnagar–Punjab route to provide relief to daily commuters. He also said that the information system should be improved so that passengers receive timely updates about any cancellation or diversion.
Patpatia expressed hope that the Railway Ministry will take this matter seriously and implement effective measures to ensure that the Muzaffarnagar–Punjab rail route remains smooth, stable and reliable even during the winter months.
